Ephesians 5: 6-14

Paul gives a clear and urgent reminder to believers in Ephesians 5 - don’t be deceived by the empty words of the world. The culture around us may try to normalize sin, excuse disobedience, or blur the lines between truth and compromise—but God’s Word calls His people to something higher.

Scripture reminds us that because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 5:6). As followers of Christ, we are called not to participate in the darkness of the world, but to live differently.

Pastor Ryan reminded us that the gospel doesn’t just change our beliefs—it changes how we live. When Christ saves us, He brings us out of darkness and into His light, and our lives should begin to reflect the character of God.

Living as children of light means pursuing what is good, right, and true (Ephesians 5:9). It means examining our lives, rejecting the things that belong to darkness, and allowing the truth of God’s Word to expose and transform us.

Paul even tells believers to expose the unfruitful works of darkness, because when the light of Christ shines, what was hidden becomes visible. The passage closes with a powerful call:

“Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14)

This is both a warning and an invitation. The gospel calls people out of spiritual sleep and into the life-giving light of Jesus Christ.

What an incredible reminder that the Christian life is not passive—we are called to wake up, walk in the light, and live in a way that reflects the transforming power of Christ.
