1 John 1: 5-10

This Sunday, Pastor Ryan Smith continued our expository study through 1 John, reminding us of one of the most foundational truths in all of Scripture:

“God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)

John doesn’t leave room for a faith that is only spoken—he calls us to a faith that is lived. Walking with Christ means walking in the light. It means allowing God’s truth to expose our sin, not to shame us, but to transform us.

We were challenged to examine our hearts:

- Are we claiming fellowship with God while living in darkness?

- Are we hiding our sin, or confessing it?

- Are we trusting in our own goodness, or in Christ’s perfect righteousness?

The beautiful hope of this passage is that the light doesn’t drive repentant sinners away—it leads them to the Savior. When we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us because of what Jesus has already accomplished on the cross.
