1 John 4: 1-6

Not every voice speaking into our lives is speaking truth.

This Sunday, Pastor Ryan continued our study through 1 John, reminding us that as believers, we are called to be discerning about what we hear, what we believe, and what we allow to shape our hearts: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God…” — 1 John 4:1

John warns us that false teaching is real, which means we shouldn’t simply accept something because it sounds spiritual, inspiring, or convincing. We test everything against the truth of God’s Word and the truth of who Jesus Christ is.

But this passage doesn’t leave us fearful—it gives us incredible confidence: “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” — 1 John 4:4

We don’t have to be intimidated by the voices of the world. The Holy Spirit lives within those who belong to Christ, and God is greater. His truth is greater. His power is greater.

As we walk into a new week, may we be people who know God’s Word well enough to recognize what is true, test what we hear, and confidently follow Christ—no matter what the world around us is saying.

Know the Truth. Test the voices. Follow Jesus. Remember who lives within you.
