1 John 1: 1-4

This Sunday, Pastor Phil officially launched our new expository journey through the book of 1 John, beginning with the opening four verses—a powerful introduction that reminds us our faith is rooted in a real, living Savior.

John doesn’t begin with opinions or philosophy. He begins with eyewitness testimony.

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands…” (1 John 1:1)

John boldly declares that Jesus is not a myth, a legend, or simply a good teacher. He is the eternal Word of Life, fully God and fully man. John saw Him. He heard Him. He walked with Him. He touched Him. The gospel isn’t based on wishful thinking—it’s built on the historical reality of Jesus Christ.

But John doesn’t stop there. He shares this truth for a purpose:

That we may have fellowship with God.

That we may have fellowship with one another.

That our joy may be complete.

The Christian life isn’t merely about knowing facts about Jesus—it’s about knowing Jesus Himself. Through Him, we’re invited into a restored relationship with the Father and into genuine fellowship with His people. This kind of fellowship produces a joy that circumstances cannot steal.

As we begin this study through 1 John, may we be challenged to examine what we believe, deepen our walk with Christ, and experience the joy that comes from abiding in Him!
